Deedilydee *click click* deedilydee *click click* deedilydee deedilydoo deedilydee….excuse me. I can’t possibly write about The Addams Family without remembering the iconic theme song. The creepy, kooky and seriously spooky family have been a household name and a family favourite for generations. In September 2021, they’ll be returning to games consoles for the first time since 2001.

That’s the news from Outright Games (Spirit Lucky’s Big Adventure, Blaze: Axle City Racers) today. They’re partnering with Metro Goldwyn Mayer and developer PHL Collective (Ben-10: Power Trip) to bring The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem to PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PC on September 24th, 2021.

A 3D platform adventure with 1 to 4 player co-op play, The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem has you play as Wednesday, Pugsley, Gomez, and Morticia as they traverse their mansion after being shrank down to the size of… well… Thing. While attempting to save their home from a mysterious visitor who is dead-set on taking over, you’ll also be using each characters unique ability (like Gomez’s Mazurka Saber and Wednesday’s pet octopus Socrates) to discover the secrets of the Addams Family Manor.

If you’ve watched the above trailer, you’ll have seen that The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem features the same art style and character design as the 2019 animated movie. During a recent preview event – OG Unwrapped Spring Showcase – I was able to confirm that while this game features those same characters, it isn’t directly tied to the movies. This is a totally original adventure. This means you’ll be able to play The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem when it launches in September without spoiling the Addams Family 2 movie which is expected to be released in October 2021.

“It is very exciting to work, not only with MGM for the first time, but to work with them on The Addams Family – one of the biggest family entertainment brands of all time. For us, it is truly a delight to create a thrilling family adventure video game, with one of the most iconic and enduring families in all of popular culture.”

Terry Malham, CEO of Outright Games

“Our fanbase for The Addams Family spans generations and continents, and they are always looking for different ways to connect with the characters and storyline. With the launch of the new game with Outright Games, we are providing fans with the opportunity to enjoy the creepy and endearing charm of Wednesday, Pugsley, Gomez, and Morticia well beyond the movie release this fall.”

Our take:

The Addams Family has always been a hit with my family. My parents like them. I loved them growing up (especially the Mega Drive game. Remember that?). Now my own kids adore them – The 2019 animated movie has been viewed at least 10 times in my household. Probably more. With a movie sequel coming up this year, a family friendly gaming romp featuring these iconic characters makes all the sense in the world. The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem seems to have all the components to make it a well-liked family favourite. The developers, PHL Collective, did an excellent job with Ben-10: Power Trip so they’ve shown they have the capability to make a great game for kids. So long as enough of the enigmatic personality comes through during play without the voice acting cast, this might be one worth picking up in September.
