Real-time XCOM set in the Xenomorph universe shows off its strategy, combat and tactical decision-making in a new trailer for Aliens: Dark Descent.

Incubating nicely ahead of its release next month, Tindalos Interactive and Focus Entertainment have released a deep dive gameplay trailer for Aliens: Dark Descent into the wild. Feast your eyes on over five minutes of new gameplay, showing off the various systems and mechanics you’ll get to play around with when the game launches.

As you explore further into the game, you’ll progress in a complex story and attempt to solve the mysteries of Planet Lethe. Players will manage their squad as a single unit and in real-time, as opposed to the traditional turn-based XCOM gameplay. Utilising the Squad Behaviour System, Marines react intelligently to orders that shift them around automatically on the field.

Marines not only come equipped with brains however, but plenty of brawn too. You’ll use flamethrowers to engulf corridors and condemn enemy paths. Suppressive fire is effective at slowing down your enemies and sentry guns are best used to sustain tough encounters while making sure not to run out of resources. Tactically deciding when and how to utilise your available tools will be the difference between succumbing to the Xeno threat and spraying their acid blood over every surface.

No One Can Hear You Scream

The developers promise that every run will be unique as the Xenomorphs adapt to player behaviour. Each choice remains unaltered as players explore extensive, open and persistent levels. This means your poor decision making will come back to bite you with a rather sharply tipped tail. Managing the squad’s health and stress levels is equally as important as clearing objectives. If a marine gets lost, they’ll be gone for good, so you have to take care and think carefully.

After each mission, players return to their ship – the Otago. The ship acts as a hub to heal and recruit Marines, to research and develop new tech that improves gear. With 5 Marine classes available, assign a role to each of your spacefaring jarheads and create a stronger squad to explore further and battle against an onslaught of iconic Xenomorph creatures.

Aliens: Dark Descent

There’s not much longer to wait, as Aliens: Dark Descent will be lurching out of the shadows on June 20th for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and PC.
