The Last Kids on Earth is a wildly successful series of books from author Max Brallier. It has sold more than five million copies in print around the world, with eight titles from Penguin Young Readers. The latest book in the series, The Last Kids on Earth and the Skeleton Road, released on September 15th, 2020 was an instant New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal best seller. An interactive episode of the show is currently in production.
“Along with Max Brallier and our partners at Atomic Cartoons, we’re delighted to announce we will be bringing fans the opportunity to play The Last Kids on Earth and the Staff of Doom. The Last Kids on Earth is a hugely successful book and TV series, and the story lends itself perfectly to an action-adventure game.”
Terry Malham, CEO of Outright Games.
Outright Games have been on real tear in 2020, releasing new games for a whole host of kid friendly IP’s including Transformers, Ben 10, Trollhunters, Zoids Wild and Paw Patrol. They’ve really cornered the market for quality children’s games based on recognisable characters and an adaption of The Last Kids on Earth makes perfect sense. Stage Clear Studios are a Spanish development studio that’s more recently known for porting games to new platforms. Yesterday Origins is probably their most recognisable development but by the looks of The Last Kids on Earth, this might become their biggest success to date.
“When we first teamed up with Max [Brallier] to develop The Last Kids on Earth TV series a few years ago, we dreamed that we might one day have an opportunity to bring the franchise to life as a video game. Now we’re taking the Last Kids experience to another level with this game, and we are so excited for gamers around the world to play The Last Kids on Earth and the Staff of Doom.”
Matthew Berkowitz, Chief Creative Officer, Atomic Cartoons and Thunderbird Entertainment.
Our take: My kids have really enjoyed watching the The Last Kids on Earth on Netflix and they’re pretty excited to play a game set in this world. Outright Games have a decent track record of making kids games that are much more than just a cash in on a well known IP and I’m hoping this continues in the vein.
