Ah, you had a feeling this would appear eventually. It’s no secret Futurlab are very, very good at what they do and what they seemingly do well is line up with massive IP so they can make games about cleaning up their iconic locations. Whoever thought this was going to take off when you put it that way? 

Still, Futurlab have reached for the stars and pulled them down from a galaxy far, far away, bringing only ruddy Star Wars to Powerwash Simulator 2. It’s quite the step up from Adventure Time, it has to be said. 

And yet, oddly, Powerwash and Star Wars appear to go together rather well. Whilst it appeared inevitable (there is a Star Wars game in basically every genre at this point), the combination of taking charge of a little droid and washing an AT-AT and it not being at all odd feels like the reason Powerwash works as a game in the first place. Pair it with an Star Wars lofi album and you’ve got quite the Sunday afternoon. 

And this is quite the pack. Futurlab have thrown together six levels – all iconic locations from each generation of Star Wars – your little PO-W2 droid that could is sent to each one with a power washer and a dream. This is the way. 

And once again it has to be commended that Futurlab have gone to town on the references, easter eggs and little in-jokes Star Wars fans will thoroughly enjoy. Fortunately you’ll be picking up on them fairly easily, as these levels aren’t for the faint hearted of power washers amongst us. These levels are as dirty as a trash compactor and each level will take you a fair grind to shine them up enough for even Captain Phasma to see themselves in. 

My personal favourite level, the Mos Eisley Cantina – band notwithstanding, we’re in there on a very quiet day, it has to be said – is so unspeakably ‘shiny’ once you’ve completed your day’s work there. I noticed at one point I had one or two things left that I had missed – the peskiest of tiny dirt marks hidden away that you’ll be all too familiar with if you’re a PWS veteran – I just took a step back and found myself walking around the Cantina looking at all the extra touches Futurlab have included, it was terrific fun. Look out for a great Han Solo reference hidden in there.

And I mention the silence of the Cantina level. Of course we’re all enormously familiar with how Star Wars ‘sounds’, and there’s certainly a lack of it here which seems unfortunate. Whilst it’s in keeping with the tone of PWS2, this is Star Wars, it doesn’t feel as deeply immersive without the unforgettable sound effects (though your power washer does sound like a blaster, which is delightful). The droids you come across are still and quiet, and it’s a shame they aren’t beep boop bop bep and whatnot, but it’s a small gripe.  

Then there’s the aforementioned AT-AT level, which on (Han) solo feels enormous and overwhelming, yet incredibly cool. Have you ever abseiled with cleaning products up at AT-AT before? It seems unlikely, and getting to that here is super fun. It’s certainly worth attempting this one with a buddy though, the job is enormous and probably took me longer than the first couple of levels combined. And then some. Longer than it takes to go to Tosche Station to pick up some power converters, that’s for sure.

So more PWS 2 levels and they’re in Star Wars. It’s hard to complain about that really. The jobs are big and full of detail, and certainly as fun as you would expect if you’re one of us who is connected with The Force (ie, those who get PowerWash Simulator and love the bones off it). I don’t see how Futurlab will go bigger than this for their upcoming DLC packs, though I certainly wouldn’t complain if I had to wash the outside of Avengers Tower anytime soon…just saying. 

Do or do not, there is no try. Or something.
