[Op-Ed] FF7 Remake Part Two Might Look Something Like This – You Thought Part One Was Thirsty?
The Kalm Before The Storm
Starting with Kalm town and the nearby Chocobo farm gives Part Two a perfect light-hearted beginning. The team spend time in Kalm town recapping the story of Intergrade, foreshadowing Nibelheim for later, and kicking off the plot to follow Sephiroth. Tifa and Cloud both know Sephiroth from way back and this needs to come out here. The remake will probably increase the time in each location and for Kalm that might include a number of opening quests of the type we loved to hate at the start of Part One – finding lost cats for little girls etc.
Following in Sephiroth’s wake will become the main issue in Part Two and the first place you happen across that’s unaffected is Chocobo Farm. I’d imagine some familiar faces here from Wall Market, such as Chocobo Sam. Also good odds on encountering Yuffie at this point considering her Chocobo riding-ending to Intermission. You need a Chocobo to cross the swamps and get past a huge optional boss. This section sets up early mini-games and mechanics that will likely permeate the whole game, probably by having you start your own Chocobo breeding sub-game in prep for the main event at the end of this Part. You then take your newly caught, or bought, Chocobo and traverse the swamps only to find Sephiroth has been there first. He didn’t need no bleeding Chocobo to avoid the Mythril Snake. He sliced and diced and hung it up all on his own. In the OG game this was the first time you really saw what Sephiroth was capable of. Imagine that in 4K.
