We’re Back… Kind of

I’m really glad to write the words “we’re back” – But there’s a bit of a caveat.

As some of you have noticed, for the past few days FingerGuns.net was not responding. It either tried to sell you a BB Gun or was a simple white screen. I can only apologise for that.

It became apparent on the 15/09/2020 that someone had managed to gain access into FingerGuns.net and had done so maliciously in the weeks prior. No personal details were stolen. They did so to mess with us and they did a really great job of it. They left us a message that was a little NSFW in the back end too. We’ve taken steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

The issue we have is that a lot of our data was lost. 3 years of posts have been corrupted and we’re devastated about it. We do have a process in place to manually restore this but it’ll take time to get that back. We’re going to work to make sure everything we can recover will be, starting with our reviews. The site will also look ugly a bit different for the time being. We believe that the theme we were using on WordPress was what allowed our attacker to gain entry. We’re taking this opportunity to give the site a new look, much to the glee of Paul, but in the mean time we’re using a default WordPress one.

Lastly, if you encounter any issues with the site – if you get a 404 error for example – I apologise and we’ll be fixing these issues ASAP.
