The Next Trails Game Has Been Announced

Trails Through Daybreak II has been out just over a month and true to form, that means Falcom need to throw their next game at you. Trails Beyond The Horizon. Most of us have barely finished the last one before a new trailer hits your eyeballs, spoiling everything. If you haven’t finished Daybreak II, fair warning, maybe don’t watch the trailer below, but for everyone else, feast your eyes.

Trails Beyond The Horizon, previously called Kai no Kiseki Farewell, O Zemuria for its Japanese release, is the next and purportedly final game in the Calvard arc and follows on from Daybreak I and II. It features the same loveable band of Arkride Solutions priggans from the latest games, and just like in Daybreak II throws a fairly hefty number of cameos and returning characters at you from the larger series for good measure. Longtime fans rejoice. For those who started with Daybreak, this is where you really start to get lost.

From the Press Release –

The prophesied end of the Zemurian continent draws near, and so does the launch of humanity’s first foray into space. A sudden invitation from Marduk to cooperate in a high-tech training exercise sets Van Arkride, Ashen Chevalier Rean Schwarzer, and Father Kevin Graham on a collision course with the secrets at the very core of Zemuria. Their paths may diverge, but the ultimate question remains the same: Just what lies beyond the edge of the horizon?
All Trails Lead Here: Paths from across Zemuria intertwine with higher stakes than ever before as the Trails series enters its final chapter!
Gameplay, Evolved: New gameplay mechanics such as Shard Commands, Awakening, and the time-freezing Z.O.C. give you an unprecedented amount of options in both Field and Command Battles!
Dream Teams: Gather allies from all over Calvard and beyond and put a stop to Ouroboros’ machinations in the Grim Garten, a dungeon that you can take on with your own custom party!

To explain to the uninitiated and to demonstrate just how much series lore you now need, that’s Van Arkride of Daybreak I and II, Rean Schwarzer (Ashen Chevalier is a kind of title) from the Cold Steel series of 4x games, and Father Kevin Graham from the original Trails in the Sky trilogy and plenty of others since. So at this point, if you aren’t up to date with everything except maybe Crossbell, you are going to start getting lost.

Anyway, my lamentations about the difficulties of getting into this series aside, the next installment looks suitably great and in keeping with the series’ generally high-quality narrative. Check out the official website for far more details. There are deluxe and limited editions galore, and the best thing of all, once again, it’s not a very long wait. Autumn 2025.

Trails Beyond The Horizon launches this Autumn 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
