Supermassive Games Announce Sci-fi Survival Horror Directive 8020
Even if the Opening Night Live showcase for this year’s Gamescom didn’t ignite our hype engines, there were a couple of highlights to get excited about, not least Directive 8020. You may have been forgiven if, like us, you mistook Directive 8020 for a sequel to the much maligned The Callisto Protocol. Luckily, it’s not a new entry in that series, but rather a brand new IP from Supermassive, makers of The Quarry and Until Dawn.
Even with The Casting of Frank Stone on their plate, Supermassive are already looking to the future. Featuring Hollywood actor Lashana Lynch, Directive 8020 will be a new undertaking for the developers, as they look to expand on the gameplay front with more survival horror based gameplay mechanics. All new stealth systems and persistent real-time threats mean this’ll be even more dangerous than Supermassive’s previous outings.
Earth is dying and humanity is running out of time. 12 light years from home, Tau Ceti f offers a small sliver of hope. When the colony ship Cassiopeia crash lands on the planet, its crew soon realize they are far from being alone.
Hunted by an alien organism capable of mimicking its prey, the crew of the Cassiopeia must outwit their pursuers to make it home alive. As they battle to survive, they are confronted with the hardest choice of all: to save themselves, they must risk the lives of everyone on Earth.
In space, death takes many forms.
