Smoke and Rain Announced as Latest Mortal Kombat 1 Combatants

Raise your hands for Mortal Kombat 1’s latest entrants Smoke and Rain. Who, it may not surprise you to hear, are masters of the elements smoke… and water. While their names aren’t exactly what you’d define as wholly original, the latest trailer released by NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games suggests you’ll be having a blood curdling good time controlling them.

Interestingly, the trailer focuses predominantly on Scorpion and Sub-Zero as they attempt to build the foundation of the Lin Kuei clan within Liu Kang’s time-fabricated new universe. Smoke is a fellow member of this hallowed clan and will be assisting the two aforementioned… heroes? Anti-heroes? Limb-ripping badasses? Take your pick.

A master of stealth and misty magical abilities, Smoke will be joining the Lin Kuei in their quest to defend Earthrealm. Plus, his abilities look rapid and dangerous, should be fun.

Emerging for the first time alongside Smoke is Rain. He controls water and yeah, he also looks pretty deadly, and those water physics are damn satisfying. A High Mage of Outworld who’s spent his life honing the ability of water into a lethal weapon to snap spines, he aims to establish and understand the realms’ darkest and most dangerous sorcery.

Additionally, Sektor, Cyrax, Frost, and Scorpion can all be seen in the video as new Kameo Fighters, which provide a wide range of support moves and abilities during matches.

Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on 19 Sept. 2023. All Mortal Kombat 1 pre-orders will receive Shang Tsung as an in-game playable character, and those who pre-order the game for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S will also receive access to the Mortal Kombat 1 Beta, which will be available in August 2023.

Earthrealm needs its mightiest heroes and those spinal fractures ain’t gonna cause themselves.
