Don’t Nod’s new and exciting title Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is right around the corner, so what better time to learn more about the game via a gameplay overview. What we know so far is that you’ll be playing as both the titular Banishers, Antea Duarte and Red Mac Raith, two lovers who have sworn to protect the living from the dead as ghost hunters.
Things aren’t as they appear however as Antea Duarte is a spirit fighting others of her kind, giving two unique perspectives and gameplay elements as each character has their own individual abilities. Don’t Nod’s signature emotionally impactful narratives are still present here, on top of returning to familiar grounds for the studio with an injection of action-RPG.

What we can gather from the overview is there’s a very similar choice-based mechanic we saw in Vampyr. Like Vampyr’s efforts to lean into or resist vampirism, you’ll be making equally tough decisions in Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. You play a couple of Banishers, Antea Duarte and Red Mac Raith, experienced spirit hunters, sent to New Eden to lift a mysterious curse and solve haunting cases. But after an ill-advised attack, Antea is killed and becomes one of the ghosts she loathes. Torn between their vows to protect the living from malicious spirits and the nightmare of Antea’s condition, you must make hard decisions: Will you honor your Banisher oath or sacrifice the living in a desperate bid to bring your beloved back?
