NINJA GAIDEN Is Back And It’s Looking Old-school Cool

Having just enjoyed my playthrough of Ninja Gaiden Black remaster, I was pretty pleased to see more info for Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound at Sony’s State of Play. Originally announced back in Dec 2024, it’s back and it’s got a new trailer and release date. Check it out below.

Dotemu (yep, the legends behind TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge and the downright amazing Streets of Rage 4) have teamed up with The Game Kitchen for NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound, a brand-new 2D side-scrolling action platformer.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound seemingly throws everything at you — blades, claws, demons, and little to no breathing room. The new trailer shows off just how beautifully brutal this 2D beast really is. So what about the story? Yes, there is one… The game continues right after the opening moments of the original Ninja Gaiden on the NES. The human and demon realms have collided, and Ryu’s off on his own revenge mission. That leaves Kenji Mozu, a young Hayabusa ninja, to step up and stop the madness. He’s not alone though. Enter Kumori, a deadly kunoichi from the rival Black Spider Clan. Together, they’ll have to bury grudges (and swords in bad guys heads presumably) and master forbidden techniques.

To help you on your quest, and to make things a little more fair, you’ll get upgradable moves, hidden challenges, and secret missions. What makes this better is that it’s all wrapped in gorgeous pixel art and backed by a killer soundtrack from the composer of the original games, Sergio de Prado!

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is slashing its way onto PC, Switch, PS5, PS4 and Xbox this July 31.
