Sniper Elite: Resistance Takes Aim At End Of January Release
Nazi-hunting, campaign-spanning war shooter Sniper Elite is back, this time in the form of Sniper Elite: Resistance. The established sharpshooter series returns with an all-new campaign, new locations and a change in who’s behind the scope this time. Take a look at the latest trailer below to see what Rebellion are up to:
A New Scope
That’s right, the first thing some of you eagle-eyed hunters will notice is that the man behind the rifle isn’t series veteran Karl Fairburne. Don’t worry, he’s not been KIA, but instead saving the world in Sniper Elite 5’s story that runs parallel to this. Instead, we’re playing as Harry Hawker, an agent of the Special Operations Executive (SOE), who some might remember as a playable character in SE5’s co-op campaign mode.
From the press release:
“In Sniper Elite: Resistance, Harry Hawker, agent of the Special Operations Executive (SOE), takes the lead role for the first time in the series as he discovers an insidious new Wunderwaffe – something so powerful, it guarantees the Nazis would win the war. This new standalone story runs in parallel to the events of Sniper Elite 5 and turns the attention towards the hidden war, far from the front lines, deep within the heart of occupied France.
As you would expect from the Sniper Elite franchise, the game offers unparalleled sniping mechanics, stealth and tactical third-person combat. Players can also expect huge agency on how to complete your mission, with optional kill List targets, multiple infiltration and extractions points, and side missions.
Sniper Elite Resistance also introduces Propaganda Missions, a brand-new style of side mission to the series. Locate a unique Propaganda poster in each of the main campaign’s levels to unlock a Propaganda Mission where you become a Resistance Fighter.”
Personally, I’m excited. I’ve always been a fan of sniping games, and Sniper Elite: Resistance looks like the next great continuation of the series for me. The series has always captured the authenticity of its period-specific weaponry, and have we mentioned the X-ray system before? What could be more fun than knowing you’ve hit the mark with some glorious head/limb/unmentionable body destruction? Not only that, but Rebellion faithfully recreate the warzones in each campaign, be it railyards to Nazi-occupied castles. The verticality and multi-angled approach to completing objectives adds more replayability, solo or co-op, as well as numerous hidden items and optional objectives to get stuck into.
Not convinced with the thought of popping Nazi noggins? Cast your scope over these screenshots and see if that changes your mind (there’s no X-ray kill-cam pics in here):
Sniper Elite: Resistance lands on consoles and PC on the 30th January 2025. Physical and digital versions are available for console, as well as a choice in Standard or Deluxe editions.
