Extended Story Trailer Drops For Lords Of The Fallen

Hot off the heels of its spot in the middle of Gamescom Opening Night Live, Hexworks and CI Games have released an extended version of the trailer from the show, giving even more information and clues about Lords of the Fallen and its interesting premise and story. To say I’m pleased with this development is an understatement. A story trailer, for a soulslike!? Fantastic news. Dark Souls never had a story trailer! I’m always encouraged that I’m going to appreciate and like a soulslike more when it does tell a story, and in a more obvious fashion than From Software like to use. Here it is, check it out!

From the Studio – After an age of the cruelest tyranny, the demon God, Adyr, was finally defeated. But Gods… do not fall forever. Now, aeons later, Adyr’s resurrection draws nigh. As one of the fabled Dark Crusaders, journey through both the realms of the living and the dead in this expansive RPG experience, featuring colossal boss battles, fast challenging combat, thrilling character encounters, and deep, immersive storytelling. Will your legend be one of light… or one of darkness?

My expectations are tempered by the style of story this genre usually delivers, but fingers crossed it will have a little more on the plot and character side of things, and not just world-building and lore. For the most part it’s a trailer of appropriately evil and epic-sounding voiceover, bosses monologing for too long while I unsheath my sword, and screaming creatures, but there’s moments that promise more; the mention of a brother, the guide giving you a choice, that blood angel. Let’s hope Adyr has a bit of personality and we’ll have something grand on our hands.

Lords of the Fallen is available to pre-order now on high-end PC’s, and current-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and releases Friday 13th October 2023.
