15 Indie Games To Be Excited About During February 2025

Barely shaking off the dust from my 2024 indie games backlog, I am back with a whole bunch of titles to bring in the new year. 2025 is looking to be as big as ever in terms of its releases, with indie games once again proving to be the cream of the crop.

From level-breaking fantasy RPGs to car-fixing lo-fi RPGs to breaking and then fixing your dice sci-fi RPGs, that’s a lot of Gs to roleplay in. The list is eclectic as ever and I can’t wait to get into them, so without further ado here are 15 indie games to be excited about during February 2025.

Cat Detective Albert Wilde by beyondthosehills – 24th January 2025

Formerly known as Quantum P.I., Cat Detective Albert Wilde is a noir detective game full of humanoid animals. The game is set in the 1930s as you play as the titular Albert Wilde who’s on a murder case. You can probably put a cat in any game and I’d likely give it a playthrough, but sticking them in a suit and solving crime sounds like my kind of Dreamies.

The developer compares the genre of the game to a walking sim with some visual novel stylings as it has a focus on its comedic storytelling more than a whodunnit mystery. Boasting an authentic 30s noir look with stop-motion animation, Cat Detective Albert Wilde sees you deducing, interrogating and suspecting a slew of anthropomorphic characters. The game is out now on PC.

Eternal Strands by Yellow Brick Games – 28th January 2025

Eternal Strands is the ambitious debut from Yellow Brick Games. It’s an action fantasy RPG-lite that’s brimming with physics-driven spell casting. Utilising fire, ice and gravity to conquer giant monsters, you can use the world’s environment as well as climb onto the beasts to defeat them in Shadow of Colossus meets some Red Faction Guerilla action.

You play as Brynn, a weaver on a mission to recover her people’s cultural home. You won’t be alone, however, as your band of friends follow you on this journey through Enclave to unlock all of its secrets. Our own Toby reviewed this one which you can check out here. Eternal Strands is out now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Citizen Sleeper by Jump Over The Age – 31st January 2025

Citizen Sleeper shot up to being one of my favourite games of all time a couple of years back. Inspired by tabletop RPGs and set in a sci-fi dystopia, CS boasts a tenderness in its writing and demands connection as you operate a malfunctioning body across the muck and desperation of an equally malfunctioning capitalistic endgame.

You have your dice rolls and with it bad luck, as well as introspective monologues on what it means to exist, resulting in a perfect mesh of a visual novel and a risk-reward RPG. The sequel, Starward Vector, looks to expand every facet of the original by creating new ways to disrupt its TTRPG roots as you go out on contracts, manage your dice rolls from breaking or glitching and escaping a tyrannical gangster. You become the captain of a ship as you recruit a crew along your journey in the hopes of living a better existence together. Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector is out now for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Big Helmet Heroes by Exalted Studio – 6th February 2025

There’s nothing big-headed about being a knight in shining armour for someone. Unless, of course, your disproportionately sized helm warrants a literal term of phrase. In Big Helmet Heroes you are that literal big-headed knight, taking on the forces of evil to save the princess of your kingdom. The game is a 3D beat ’em up that can played solo or with a co-op partner, as you explore the cinematic and varied realms to be the hero.

Urban Myth Dissolution Center by Hakababunko – 12th February 2025

Ever since I was enamoured by World of Horror, I’ve always wanted more occult-centric pixel art games to go mad over. Urban Myth Dissolution Center looks to be doing just that, as you’re tasked to dissolve and deal with cursed relics, monstrous oddities and dimensional anomalies. The game is an episodic visual novel that sees you sleuthing for clues and making decisions to evolve the story.

You play as Azami Fukurai, a new employee of the Urban Myth Dissolution Center, who has the unique ability to see other peoples’ intentions and residual thoughts through her glasses. This makes for a great way to gather pieces of each mystery and solve them your way, whilst basking in its striking pixel art style. Tiny Terry’s Turbo Trip by snekflat – 13th February 2025

Simpson’s Hit ‘n’ Run is a core gaming memory for me growing up, so if there’s a game that uses that as a comparison, I’m immediately on board. Tiny Terry’s Turbo Trip has already had a successful PC launch with a current Overwhelmingly Positive score on its Steam page. However, it’s now time for Terry to take a trip onto consoles as he tries to build his car to be suitable for getting to space.

It’s an open sandbox game full of intuitive moments that get those free roam “what will this do?” type moments as you gather TURBO JUNK to upgrade your car. Glide, drive or leisurely walk through the densely packed sandbox and enjoy the soundtrack from Wuppo in a wholesome short story. Tiny Terry’s Turbo Trip is out now for PC and will release on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 13th February 2025.

Afterlove EP by Pikselnesia – 14th February 2025

Afterlove EP is a slice-of-life adventure set in urban Jakarta. The game is a blend of visual novels, narrative adventures and rhythm games from the creator of Coffee Talk and What Comes After. You play as Rama, a young musician struggling to move in with life after the death of his girlfriend, Cinta. With a year behind Rama, he’s still neglecting his music and mental health, and with a crucial gig coming up in a month, he’s hearing Cinta’s voice in his head, unsure whether it’s her spirit or his imagination.

Stories From Sol: Gun-Dog by Space Colony Studios – 20th February 2025

I covered this a couple years back now for Debug Magazine as a preview and was immediately struck by the game’s visuals. Much like the art style, the game utilises its love of everything retro to create a visual novel-style game with point-and-click adventure sensibilities. You are on board the JFS Gun-Dog in deep space, four years has passed since the end of the Solar War. Our war-scarred protagonist joins the crew of the Jovian as a new danger looms across the open space.

After discovering a mysterious signal that grabs the attention of the crew, an unknown quantity threatens not just the Gun-Dog but the whole crew. As a security officer, you attempt to save the crew from an assailant lurking in the midst of the ship, creating paranoia and outbursts of chaos. This is the first main instalment in the Stories from Sol series and uses era-accurate visuals and mechanics to create a retro romp for the modern era. Stories From Sol: The Gun Dog will release 20th February on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Die In The Dungeon by ATICO – 21st February 2025

The second game to implement dice as a gameplay element on this list, Die in the Dungeon isn’t just a great double etendre but a statement of what you’ll be doing a lot of in-game. Die in the Dungeon is a turn-based roguelike dungeon crawler that’s also a deck builder, but instead of cards, you build dice. Each dice represents a different action, from simple attacks to boosting other dice or replicating their action.

You can improve the quality of your dice by combining them or finding powerful relics, all in the name of defeating the dangers that reside in the dungeon. It’s a game that looks to reward those who experiment with different syngergies and creating builds, as it bolsters your progression to the end – not to mention it has a cute pixel art style to offset how potentially dire your luck of the dice may be. Die in the Dungeon will release February 21st 2025 on PC.
