Ralph Macchio and William Zackary team up for Karate Kid sequel

By

Yes that’s right the films original villains reunite for the sequel called Cobra Kai.

But before you get too excited about reliving all your childhood karate dreams, it’s not a full sequel. Instead, they’ve got together to create an exclusive YouTube Red comedy.

The karate kid turns 33 this year so it’s about time we caught up with the  Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio)  and Johnny Lawrence ( Billy Zabka) after the events of the All Valley Karate Tournament. The series is described as a half hour comedy, with the likes of Netflix, Amazon, and AMC all said to be involved.

The series is set 30 years after that famous tournament and focuses on a down and out Johnny seeking redemption and decides to open up the ill-fated Cobra Kai dojo. This of course reignites old rivalry with the now successful Daniel who, despite his good fortune, is looking for balance after the death of his mentor, Mr Miyagi. The half hour comedy is set to focus on the duo as they set out to address the rights and wrongs from their past with the help of karate, of course.

It doesn’t sounds much like a comedy, it actually sounds quite serious, but Hot Tub Time Machine writing duo Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg will be penning the script.

Perhaps the comedy is going to come from the fact that Ralph and William are about turn 52 and 55 respectively!

Cobra Kai is set to release in 2018
