It’s been 84 years…
Radial-G Racing Revolved is coming to PS4 next month.
No, that’s not hyperbole, it’s actually happening. Can it really be true? According to VR Focus, it’s absolutely 100% true. Excuse me, let me just have a look outside and see if the four horsemen have descended. The Last Guardian ain’t got nothin’ on this.
Why are we so excited? Well, way back when in 2015 – oh man, remember 2015? Such a simpler time… – Sean and Rossko descended upon EGX Rezzed and came across an Oculus Rift set-up for a VR racing game. Curious, we each had a go on what turned out to be Radial-G Racing Revolved, and we both declared on the spot it was the game of the show. There was a variety of VR experiences available at Rezzed that year but Radial-G was so far and away the most impressive demo – particularly the lack of motion sickness, visuals, handling – that we quizzed the developers if it would appear on consoles, namely ‘Morpheus’, PlayStation VR’s long held code name. They said yes. We were excited and now here we are, two and a half years later awaiting launch day. Yes, safe to say we’re a little hyped.
So what do you need to know? Well, if you can imagine Wipeout or F-Zero in VR, then you’ve got a sense of what Radial-G is all about. Tearing it around futuristic racing tracks with a pumping soundtrack is quite the experience in VR, though it can be played without the headset also if you crave the more traditional experience.
Sam Watts spoke to VR Focus regarding the games long gestating PlayStation release;
“After that magical day at Develop: Brighton in 2014 when we met Shuhei Yoshida and showed him the early version of the game, it was always the stretch goal to release the game on Sony PlayStation VR. Now we were are nearly able to actually hold a boxed copy of Radial-G : Racing Revolved in ours hands, the ultimate reward for all the hard work over the years. We’re excited to let PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR owners do the same”.
So when do we finally get to play it again? Well, Radial-G: Racing Revolved will come to PSVR digitally in Europe on September 12th 2017, with a retail boxed edition coming on September 15th. US dates are to be confirmed.
So then! Radial-G is finally coming to PlayStation and we’re a little bit hyped. We’re off to check if our pig pen is still firmly rooted to the ground.
