I have to confess this is a news post I just couldn’t imagine myself writing a year ago. When Nintendo first revealed the Switch, I was like Meh, after the epic balls up of the Wii U, I had lost a lot of faith and this looks just like Wii U version 2. How wrong was I!
I now own a Switch and love it and so do millions of Americans it seems. In just 10 months the Switch has become the fastest selling console in US history. According to Nintendo’s internal sales figures, they have sold just over 4.8 million units, which is a record-breaking number. The previous record was held by non-other than Nintendo’s other fancy pants console the Wii selling at just 4 million units in the same time. Go Nintendo!
Along with their pretty amazing sales figures, they have also released some stats about what gamers are playing
- 60% Users own Super Mario Odyssey. (Rossko and my game of the year)
- 55% users own Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
- 50% users own Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
- 20% Users own Splatoon 2.
“Fans across the country have experienced the joy of playing their favourite games at home or on the go,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO. “Now that many more people have received Nintendo Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and beyond.”
