Today we got perhaps what will be the final look at The Last of Us Part II, ahead of its twice-delayed release date of June 19th. There’s still not an awful lot to grab onto, though it’s pretty clear there’s a growing tension between our protagonists Joel and Ellie.
We won’t break down the entire trailer but there are segments of what looks to be a heated discussion between the pair in which Ellie is seen to storm away crying.
Is this the moment Ellie discovers the truth behind Joel’s lie the end of the first game? Would Naughty Dog share such a vital, pivotal scene way ahead of release? Wait a minute, shit, don’t answer that.
Elsewhere we see what appears to be flashbacks of Joel and Ellie adjusting to life in their new settlement, with flashbacks of Ellie listening to Joel play guitar in her now iconic red tropical design t-shirt. Oh and just for good measure there’s an absolute ton of horrific violence and disemboweled corpses. You can’t have one without the other in the The Last of Us.
Irregardless, The Last of Us Part II is still looking utterly essential, and with a far darker tone in the setting and story and a real focus on Ellie’s evidently harrowing ordeal, it’s not all that far away now and we cannot wait to finally discover the next chapter in this story.
We’ll be right there with you when the game arrives.
You think we’d let you do this on your own?
