Earlier this year we reported on a rumour doing the rounds that Ubisoft has signed an exclusivity deal with Oculus to bring Splinter Cell to Facebook’s VR platform.
In a recent interview with ilibili and Gamersky Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has revealed some small snippets of information that could lead to those Oculus rumours being true. Here is what he had to say (taken from Google Translate);
Regarding Splinter Cell, the series will offer new experiences, but it will rather on different devices. We work a little … a lot on the license, so that it can someday come back. I can not tell you when, because it takes time, but we have to find the right moment to make a comeback.
If you don’t like the sound of an Oculus exclusive Splinter Cell, I’m with you. But there is a ray of hope, notice he said different devices. With the imminent launch of Stadia and the new next-gen machines from Sony and Microsoft, it could launch on all of them. and knowing Ubisoft and their history with Splinter Cell games, it will probably turn up on them all, including the Game Boy Advance. Maybe.
Until we hear anything solid it’s all speculation. Fingers crossed it’s a PS5 launch game.
