Sonic Screwdrivers at the ready, The Doctor is in.
In what seems like the most obvious, ‘of course this should happen’ news we’ve heard in some time, publishers PlayStack have today revealed Doctor Who: The Edge of Time, a feature-length Doctor Who game coming to VR platforms this September.
Developed by Maze Theory, The Edge of Time will take fans through a world of aliens and mystery, embarking on a fully-interactive adventure inspired by the show’s history. Jodie Whittaker is on hand to provide the voice of The Doctor. Natch.
You’ll be encountering mind-bending puzzles, grapple with those pesky Daleks (along with Weeping Angels and a bunch of other Who monsters along with brand new ones). The press release confirms locations will be ‘stunning and cinematic’, something us Doctor Who fans have not yet experienced in video games, so that’s rather exciting.
Is there a story? You bet there is, even if it is Doctor Who and it doesn’t really have to make any kind of cohesive sense so long as The Doctor has some quips and a powerful monologue about life.
The Doctor has been hurled through time to the end of the universe. A virus that threatens to rip apart reality itself has been unleashed. Players can pilot the TARDIS on a journey across worlds both familiar and strange to recover a series of powerful time crystals that can repair spacetime and ultimately, save the universe itself.
Doctor Who: The Edge of Time will launch in September 2019 on Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, HTC Vive, PlayStation VR and VIVE Cosmos.
