It’s an odd time in the gaming industry, the regular cycles of console generations have all gone up the spout with the release of the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X. I kind of stop-gap until the next big wave of next-generation machines arrive. I can’t believe we’re talking next generation already, Seems like only yesterday the PS4 was released.
But alas in the next few years there will no doubt be lots of talk and speculation about the new generation of super consoles. The first to jump the gun as were appear to be Avalanche Studios, the folks behind the Just Cause series and Mad Max. They have just posted a job listing asking for a talented personage to work on their next-generation open world game for current and next-gen machines! PS5 Just Cause? Xbox Two X Mad Max?
Here are both listings
“Avalanche Studios is currently looking for a senior programmer to lead the development of our next generation open world/sandbox multiplayer engine. As the Technical Director for multiplayer, you will take ownership of the architecture and implementation of multiplayer in the Avalanche Apex engine. This is a great opportunity to work with some of the most complex and rewarding challenges in game development today; Open worlds, sandbox gameplay and highly destructible multiplayer environments… This is a rare opportunity for the candidate who wants to play an instrumental and leading role in a small team developing next-generation multiplayer experience. If you are a person who likes being challenged and stimulated in an ambitious and talented environment this position will suit you perfectly. Avalanche Studios is developing for both current and next-gen platforms.”
There is also a listing for a Senior Programmer which is more telling…
“Avalanche Studios is currently looking for a senior programmer to join a small team developing our next generation open world/sandbox multiplayer engine. Avalanche Studios is developing for both current and next-gen platforms. A strong passion for multiplayer and open world games.”
I guess at the end of the day It’s a given that game studios are gearing up for the next wave of consoles. It’s also nice that Avalanche are on board as they have been all too quiet since the release of Just Cause 3
