EA got E3 2017 off to a bang with 8 announcements for Star Wars, Madden, FIFA and a brand new Bioware IP called Anthem.
June 10th, 2017 and as is tradition these days, EA kick off E3 3017 with their press conference where they show us what exciting projects they’ve got in store for us.
This year, EA kicked off with Madden news with a pretty awesome drum ensemble. The big news? Much like FIFA 2016, Madden 2017 will have an in-depth story mode featuring a rookie named Wade who get’s drafted to the NFL. This mode is called “Longshot”.
After some PR speak about how Star Wars Battlefield II will be better thanks to community feed back, the EA conference took sight on Battlefield 1. A load of popular YouTubers shared their glowing praise of Battlefield 1 before they got to talk about the Night Maps, Prise de Tahure and the upcoming “In the Name of the Tsar” expansion which includes 6 new maps and new armies including the awesome “women’s battalion of death”. Much of this will be playable at E3 2017.
Also, a new competitive mode is coming later this year and new details will be shown at Gamescom 2017.
Apparently, Competition is important to EA and they talked about eSports (e-Sports? Esports? ESports?) and how anyone can be an esports champion… Yeah, I don’t know either.
Of course, no EA E3 conference would be complete without a new FIFA trailer and of course that was next. FIFA 18 looks bloody gorgeous.
And the news we wanted more than anything else from EA @ E3 2017 – Alex Hunter’s journey will continue in FIFA 18. The Journey: Hunter Returns.
Jesse Wellens, the “YouTube creator” who looked absolutely stoned introduced Marcus Nilsson, Executor Producer on Need for Speed Payback who talked about the upcoming racer. This game will be less about racing, more about narrative, “Putting you behind the wheel of your own driving action fantasy”… Cool. A first game play trailer was released which you can watch below:
Patrick Sodurlund then took to the stage to talk about “EA Originals”, their indie publishing label – thanks to many new pitches, EA are now publishing 30 games through this label.
EA are also working with a new studio called Hazelight to publish A Way Out, a prison break action game that looks absolutely mind blowing from the makers of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Seriously. Check out the trailer. Joseph Farez, the writer behind A Way Out showed a whole lot of passion for this game on stage, saying it will “Kick ass”. The game must be played in split-screen either online or on your couch as you partner up with someone to break out of prison.
EA then announced a new team SEED AKA Search for Extraordinary Experiences Department. This team are looking to push the boundaries of play.
Project Scorpio then got it’s first name drop at E3 2017 as EA announced Madden will looks pretty damn good on Microsoft’s new platform.
A brand new IP from Bioware was teased with more info promised at Microsoft’s E3 2017 press conference – Anthem. The game looks great. Check out the trailer here:
Sean O’Brien then took the stage to show new footage of NBA Live 18 as well as a new mode called “The One”. This mode allows you use the thumb sticks to control ball and player positioning. The game will have a free demo in October which will allow you to carry across progress to the main game.
EA ended their E3 2017 press conference with a huge gameplay blow out of Star Wars Battlefront II presented by the star of the story mode – Janina Gavankar. She explained that the story mode for the sequel will play an “essential, new Star Wars Story” set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. EA promised a much bigger game with 3 times as much content. “More heroes, More Planets, More Vehicles, Deeper customisation and progression” were all promised.
The other good news – Captain Phasma and Finn will be free DLC, as will all future DLC for Battlefront II. Cool.
