Survive the British heat wave by delving into our list of 7 snow-kissed games – Just a bit of fun for a sweltering Tuesday;
The UK is currently in the grips of a heatwave. It’s sweatier than Kratos’ armpit after a boss battle out there and the sun is as unrelenting as the Nemesis from Resident Evil – it just won’t quit. Every conversation starts with “corr blimey, it’s a bit hot out innit?” as you melt into the floor in a puddle. Unpleasant.
Sure, you could “praise the sun”, slap on some Factor 50, crack open a few cold ones and sit out in the garden getting a tan – OR you could close the curtains (to reduce screen glare, obviously), fire up the PS4 and put your feet up with our list of 7 chilly games to help you survive the heat wave.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Why not hang out with Nathan Drake – literally, from the side of a derailed train on a snow blasted mountain. While the sun beams down outside, delight in the freezing snow whipping around Nate as he puts an army of Zoran Lazarević’s goons “on ice”.
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Lara’s latest adventure is a chilly one. Surviving blizzards, trudging through the Russian wilderness deep in snow or getting the cold shoulder from Lara’s extended family – Rise of the Tomb Raider has all this and more to keep you cool on a hot summer day.
The Glitterglaze Glacier level of Yooka-Laylee is so damn cold, it damages the pair of protagonists if they’re not wearing protection. Ice castles, igloos, ice caves, icy water and snowmen should be enough to keep the heat out in this excellent collectathon.
TellTale’s Game of Thrones
What could be colder than going North of the Wall? Meet some White Walkers and feel the chill down your spine of those “Oh, this won’t end well” moments in this excellent but grim companion to the HBO show that’s got more Snow than just Jon Snow.
Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
Tell your friends you’re staying in because “you’ve taken an arrow to the knee”, turn on a fan and chill out in the The Frozen Hearth tavern. Just be careful to steer clear of the dragons. Their fire breath might be as hot as the pavement outside.
Leave the wing-suit at home and launch yourself off mountains down 100ft drops into snow drifts. Repeatedly. About 30 or 40 times should do before it stops being funny and refreshingly cathartic.
Jotun: Valhalla Edition
Explore a frozen, hand-drawn, nordic landscape as you attempt to impress the gods by defeating them in combat. This game has so much ice and snow, it might as well be a Coors Light commercial.
